What equipment do you use to teach? Lessons are given on an full size, 88-key, weighted, touch sensitive Digital Piano (Roland FP-5). Backing tracks are also used.

Can I bring a CD of music I would like to sing? Yes, please do. You can also bring an mp3 player or iPod.

What types of payment do you accept? Jo accepts cash, cheque and BACS. Jo can also accept payments via Paypal subject to an admin charge. Cheques should be made payable to JC Vocals.

Is there anything I need to bring to lessons? Jo recommends you bring a notebook to help keep track of your progress. Drinking water is provided but you’re welcome to bring your own.

What ages do you teach? Jo teaches from 5 years old upwards.

Where are lessons held? Lessons are held in a dedicated, acoustically treated studio at Jo’s home.

Do you teach absolute beginners? Yes, beginners are welcome. Everyone has to start somewhere!

Do you teach classical music? No, despite being classically trained, Jo does not teach classical music aside from a few piano grade pieces in piano lessons. Jo’s speciality is rock, pop, jazz and musical theatre.

Do I have to bring my own music? Jo has a large selection of sheet music. However, if there is something particular you wish to learn that is not in Jo’s collection, you may have to purchase the sheet music yourself, either from a music shop or as a digital download. There are a few sites listed on the links page where you can obtain sheet music.


Can I sit in on my son/daughter’s lesson? For trial lessons, you are most welcome to sit in on the lesson with your son or daughter. For regular lessons it’s best that parents wait outside as there is nowhere to wait on the premises.

Can I pay for lessons in blocks? If it’s easier for you, you’re welcome to pay for a block of lessons. Cheques should be made out to JC Vocals.

Do I have to take part in the summer show? No, you don’t have to take part in the summer show if you don’t want to. You’re more than welcome to come and watch.

How long before I can start lessons? Jo currently has a waiting list but will endeavour to fit you in for a trial lesson if a space temporarily becomes available within your specified days/times. This can be down to a current student cancelling a lesson or going on holiday so the slot may not be permanently available and may come up at short notice.

Do you break for the school holidays? Lessons do not follow term times and continue as normal through school holidays and breaks. Jo breaks for Christmas and does not teach on bank holidays or weekends.

Do you teach at weekends? Jo does not teach at weekends, but assistant teacher Paige gives Saturday beginner singing lessons for ages 4-16.

Is there space to park while waiting for my son or daughter? Space for parking is available in the road. Please do not park in the driveway as access is often required.
