The 9th annual JC Vocals summer show, held at the Crowborough Community Centre on Saturday 26th July was once again a great success. The coincidence of the show seeming to fall on one of the hottest days showed no sign of changing as temperatures hit 27°c during the afternoon, but the heat didn’t get to anyone, and the show ran smoothly and efficiently with great performances from the students.
This year’s show saw several newcomers taking the brave step of singing live to an audience for the first time. It also saw several firsts including: the first person to sing their own song (Milly McCarron), first time a male singer has sung a song by a female artist (Chris Shoebridge), and unfortunatley, the first time we’ve had four people drop out of the show on the day — I guess the pressure of live performance can be too much for people sometimes!
Awards were presented to Isaac Smith, Milly McCarron, Jane Saville and Sue Harvey — with an additional recognition of hard work going to Amy Funnell.
It’s hard to believe that next year will be the 10th show, and thinking back at all the different venues we’ve tried in the area over the years, we’re optimistic that the Crowborough Community Centre is somewhere we can settle for the years ahead.
Thanks to all the students, parents, technical & production support, and to front of house for all their help. See you next year for the 10th anniversary.
